Samim Mehdizadeh is a German-Iranian architect, researcher, and academic specializing in digital design processes, robotic fabrication, additive manufacturing, and sustainable lightweight construction. Since 2025, he has served as Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Structural Design (ITE), TU Braunschweig, where he leads projects within the Collaborative Research Center TRR 277 Additive Manufacturing in Construction (AMC) on sequential AM, robotic construction, and sustainable composites.
In 2024, he was appointed as Junior Professor for Digital Methods in Architectural Design (DMAD) at HTW Saar, where he directs research on sustainable digital construction, robotic fabrication, and computational design. The same year, he completed his Ph.D. at TU Darmstadt under Prof. Oliver Tessmann and Prof. Anna-Maria Meister, focusing on digital material programming and robotically fabricated building systems.
From 2018 to 2024, he was a research associate at the Digital Design Unit (DDU), TU Darmstadt, integrating research and teaching. Between 2016 and 2018, he worked in the office of Prof. Achim Menges, translating lightweight construction research into computational design practice. He began his master’s studies at TU Darmstadt in 2015, where his thesis earned first prize at RILEM Digital Concrete (ETH Zurich) and the Heinz-Stillger Prize for architectural research.
Mehdizadeh’s work has been published in leading journals and presented internationally. His current research explores reversible construction systems, material programming, hollow-core additive manufacturing, augmented reality-assisted design and assemblies in architecture.
