Abstract

This talk gives an overview about the robotics and automotive research activities at The University of Western Australia. On the automotive side, this talk covers electric vehicles, EV charging networks, and autonomous driving using Lidar versus deep learning methods. On robotics topics, this talk presents small embedded robots, simulation systems, and humanoid robot research with an outlook to artificial life.


Thomas Bräunl

Thomas Bräunl is visiting us from the University of Western Australia, Perth, where he is a Professor in the School of Engineering and directs the Robotics & Automation Lab as well as the Renewable Energy Vehicle Project (REV). He works on mobile robots / autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots. Professor Bräunl has been a researcher at BASF, Mercedes-Benz, BMW Munich, and BMW Mountain View. He has previously taught at University of Stuttgart, Technical University Munich, SWU China, and Santa Clara University, California. He holds a Ph.D. and Habilitation in Informatics (Computer Engineering), from University of Stuttgart.
