Daria Kovaleva is an architect and postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK). Her research explores digital design methods and sustainable production concepts for future-proof concrete construction. She joined ILEK in 2014 and has been involved in projects such as DFG TRR-141 on and SPP 2187. In the framework of her PhD thesis, she developed a zero-waste production technology for lightweight concrete structures based on additive manufacturing of water-soluble sand molds, allowing greater design freedom and eliminating production waste.
Prior to joining ILEK, Daria obtained a Diploma in Architecture from the Moscow Institute of Architecture in 2009 and worked as an architect in various practices, including the offices of Werner Sobek AG in Moscow and Stuttgart, where she was involved in several large-scale projects at the intersection of architecture and civil engineering. She has experience in teaching numerous design studios, seminars and workshops, as well as supervising bachelor's and master's theses. She has also participated in the organization and realization of several exhibitions, and her work has been presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Technical Museum in Nuremberg, the Moscow Museum of Architecture, and the Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, among others.
