On behalf of Manfred Bischoff (IBB), Jan Knippers (ITKE) and Malte von Scheven,(IBB) we would like to invite you to the joint lecture by the Institute for Structural Mechanics (IBB) and the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC, at the University of Stuttgart.

On the invitation by the institutes of structural engineering, leading experts from research and practice will give insights on current topics and projects in this lecture series. The lectures as part of the series “Structures – Design, Modelling and Construction” is followed by a small reception, sponsored by the Förderverein Freundeskreis Stuttgarter Statik.

Lecture Abstract

Roger Ridsdill Smith is a Structural Engineer, Senior Partner and Head of Structural Engineering at Foster + Partners. Roger will describe the work of the Structural team at Foster and Partners and give some thoughts on the future of structural engineering in the current climate crisis.


Roger Ridsdill Smith

After graduating from Cambridge University, Roger started work in Paris, before moving to Arup in London where he became a Director in 2003.

Past projects include the London Millennium Bridge and Citibank tower at Canary Wharf. Recent and ongoing projects include towers in New York, Lusail, Budapest, Shenzhen and Manila, airports in Panama, Phnom Penh, and Warsaw, a medical school in Mumbai, and the new Ellison Institute Laboratories in Oxford.

Roger is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, Associate Editor for the ICE Structures and Buildings Journal and member of the British Standards code committee for concrete.
