Vita:

Oliver Appling Bucklin is a research associate and doctoral candidate at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart. Oliver holds a Masters in Architecture I degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Washington. Experience at the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities led to an interest in scientific approaches to architectural design. Current research investigates sustainable building practices leveraging advanced modeling and fabrication in solid wood building envelope system. Further research covers embedded electronics and custom mechanics, including mobile robotics and integrating computational intelligence in industrial processes. He has had extensive experience in the United States in general construction and woodworking, and is currently involved in the Performative Wood group at the ICD.
