SPP 2187

On the basis of two different key projects, Stuttgart 21 in Germany and Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2, it is shown how digital tools and methods can be adopted to support design and construction of complex projects. The parametric approach in design on one side and the increased use of digital (pre)fabrication and modularisation strategies on the other one, open the way to a new generation of buildings which combines the iconic character of infrastructural architectures with a more effective use of resources. Yet, there is still a huge demand for innovation in the overall process and researchers can provide an essential contribute to the necessary paradigm shift.
