Tailored materiality Research

Tailored Materiality Research focuses on the relationship between geometry, design, fabrication, and construction. The group develops lightweight flexible (formwork) construction systems that promote efficient use of material in the design and construction of complex (concrete) structures.

This includes using structural principles to create sound and appealing designs through form-finding techniques. The group also develops computational tools and pipelines that reliably encode physical material behavior during fabrication, combining various digital manufacturing technologies.

EIC Pathfinder Portfolio “DigiTrio”

The EIC Pathfinder Portfolio “DigiTrio” unites ten ambitious projects and research consortia funded under the Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder Challenge, each exploring “Digitalization for a Novel Triad of Design, Fabrication, and Materials” and the transformative potential of digitalisation within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. Together, we form a strategic research ecosystem to reshape how buildings and structures are conceived, built, and perform. DigiTrio promotes collaboration across disciplines and borders, offering unique opportunities to build future value chains, strengthen industrial partnerships, and accelerate commercialisation potential through joint portfolio activities. DigiTrio is a dynamic platform for innovation at the intersection of science, technology, and architecture, advancing sustainable and intelligent solutions for the built environment.
